Minnesota's Boiler and High-Pressure Piping Requirements

What does it cover?

These chapters of Minnesota Rules govern the design, installation, alteration, repair, removal, operation, and maintenance of various types of boilers and high pressure piping equipment. Minnesota's boiler code consists of the following: American Society of Mechanical Engineers Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, National Board Inspection Code, various standards from the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), and the amendments in Chapter 5225 in parts or Entire Chapter 5225 . The documents are published by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and the National Board Inspection Code is published by the National Board of Boiler and Pressure Vessel Inspectors. Minnesota's high pressure piping code is contained in Chapter 5230 in parts or Entire Chapter 5230 .

Where does it apply?

This chapter applies to all municipalities throughout the state of Minnesota. This includes those jurisdictions that administer the State Building Code and those counties, cities, and townships that do not.

Who enforces it?

Inspectors from Boilers, High-Pressure Piping, Boats-for-Hire at the Department of Labor and Industry, enforce these codes throughout the state.
