About the seminars

Construction seminars are presented by MNOSHA Compliance and feature a presentation about a specific construction safety or health topic. All sessions are from 7 to 9 a.m., at the Minnesota Department of Health, Snelling Office Park, 1645 Energy Park Drive, St. Paul (get directions and a map). Free parking is available.

Big change for 2010-2011 season: The series will no longer include breakfast, so there is no longer any fee being charged. Participants are still encouraged to pre-register for each seminar, but are not required to do so, and are welcome to bring their own food and beverages.

Dates and topics

Tues., Sept. 21, 2010 -- Locating underground utilities before digging
The majority of all utilities -- electrical, gas, water, sewer, telephone -- are now buried underground to keep them out of the way and safe. In Minnesota's construction industry there have been a number of accidents and fatalities during excavation projects. Accurately locating buried utility lines before digging is of utmost importance for the safety of everyone involved.

Auger The Minnesota Office of Pipeline Safety presentation will include:

calling in a locate request;
locating;
marking standards;
white markings;
enforcement;
electric safety;
natural gas safety;
safety near other types of utilities;
hand digging;
911 notification, emergencies, reporting utility damages;
and more.
