Industrial/Modular building requirements
Minnesota State Building Code Chapter 1361 governs the construction of all
Industrialize/Modular Buildings and the manufacturing systems and components.
This Chapter applies to all Industrialized/Modular buildings manufactured for
use or occupancy in the State of Minnesota.
Industrialized/Modular Buildings are structures manufactured at a location other
than the permanent site of occupancy. Industrialized Modular Buildings include
but are not limited to, Modular buildings that are factory built single family
and multi-family housing, non residential structures such as detached
educational classrooms, communications and power equipment buildings.
These buildings may be a single whole section or of multiple sections designed
to be transported and permanently assembled on a foundation system. Since these
building are manufactured and shipped with most of the structures components
installed and finished, it is defined as a building of "closed construction."
Minnesota Chapter 1361.0200 Subp.4 "Industrialized/Modular Building" means a
building of closed construction, constructed so that concealed parts of
processes of manufacture cannot be inspected at the site without disassembly,
damage or destruction and made or assembled in manufacturing facilities, or
assembly and installation on the building site.
All Industrialized/Modular Building shall be manufactured to comply with
Minnesota State Building Code in accordance with the
Uniform
Administrative Procedures Act, Model Rule and Regulations for
Industrialized/Modular Buildings and the amendments contained in the
chapter.
Compliance with the Minnesota State building Code is evidenced by a permanent
seal and data plate. An Industrialized Building Commission Seal and Code
Compliance Data Plate are required to be affixed to each building and/or
building section prior to transport or entering the State of Minnesota.
